MISSION STATEMENT OF SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS:
“TO MAKE DISCIP LES FOR CHRIST BE GINNING IN OUR CONGREGATION AND CO
NTINUING IN OUR COMMUNITYU, OUR COUNTRY AND THE WORLD.”
June 2011
1. Pastor opened with Devotion from the "Pastoral Care Companion."
2. Pastor pointed out to the Elders that with the current laws and regulations, neither he nor the church office gets notified if someone is admitted to the hospital. Even if he is at the hospital and inquires about someone he knows has been admitted, the hospital will not provide affirmation or a room number so he can visit them. It is especially enforced in the newborn and pediatric areas.
3. Pastor also pointed out that we are losing touch with members that have sporadic attendance or have not attended in several months. We need to implement a policy to follow-up that makes sure these members and families are met with and supported and issues addressed.
4. The church secretary position was discussed. Temporary and permanent options are being considered.
5. Pastor ET Keller is celebrating the 60th anniversary of his ordination.
Selected August 14,2011 for this celebration
6. The consecration of the second fundraiser for the New Worship center will be 11 & 12 June, 201l.
7. Pastor will also be gone the weekend of 4 & 5 June. The Elders will conduct the worship services. Since this is a Holy Communion weekend, Pastor ET Keller will consecrate the elements.
8. Discussed providing money from the Good Samaritan fund for a congregation member with a specific need. Motion made and approved.
Proverbs 14: 26 states, “He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge." Children lookup in to their father, they want to grow up to be like Dad, They will imitate what Dad says and will repeat the same behavior they see Dad do. Dads, it will not work to say to your child do as I tell you, not what I do. As the role of a mother is unique and special so is the role of a father. A father who fears the LORD is a father that will have the love and admiration of his children. God's creation is amazing. He created fathers and gave them the responsibility of loving, nurturing and protecting his children as He loves, nurtures and protects us. Psalm 103: 13: "As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him." Obviously, as children of God, there are many references in the Bible to our relationship as His children. As his children we are to honor GOD.
June 19 is Father's Day. It is a special day set aside to honor our fathers. Honor is a word that encompasses many things. We are at many different stages in our lives, and for some of us, our father is no longer living; but we still honor him. Honoring our fathers means respect, praise, thanksgiving, remembrance, compassion, obedience, admiration and most of all love. There is nothing of this world that can fill a man's heart greater the unconditional love of his child. A child knows Dad is a refuge, a safe haven where love and protection are provided. Dad is the one a child goes to for help knowing that the information and help given comes out of Love, just as GOD's love comes to us.
It is not just on June 19 that we need to honor our fathers, but all year. GOD the FATHER created us out of love, and gave that responsibility of loving and caring for his children while we are here in this world to our earthly fathers. Psalm 91:14-16, 14Because he loves me, says the LORD, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." By praising and honoring our fathers this month, we honor GOD our FATHER, and He in return will hold us in His heart.
Respectfully submitted, Bernie Clements
