Angel Food Ministries Update
We have been doing the Angel Food program here at Shepherd of the Hills since January. We started out great with 25 boxes the first month. February and March were down a bit with about a dozen boxes per month. The April order has dwindled to half a dozen. We have a handful of repeat customers and six to eight core volunteers, including a few Youth who have been involved. (Thanks for your help!) I've heard great reviews from those who have ordered the food. The menu changes month to month, so please look over each month's menu! The boxes each month always have the same name, but the items in them change. The Signature Box is an assortment of frozen meat, vegetables (usually frozen, but some fresh), pasta or rice. This box also always includes a dozen eggs, shelf-stable milk and a dessert item that's always a surprise. Priced at $30, it's a great value. The Senior/Convenience Box ($28) includes 10 nutritionally balanced (also diabetic-friendly) heat and serve frozen meals and 10 assorted sugar-free desserts. The Allergen-Free Box ($23 for 5 Ibs.) includes breaded chicken, beef or pork which are free of peanuts, tree nuts, soybeans, milk, eggs, fish/crustacean and gluten. The Seafood Box ($35 for 6 Ibs.) is a popular item for Angel Food customers. Angel Food also continues to add new items. The newest boxes are "After School' which offer perfect ready-to-go snacks for kids (or grown-ups). With busy summer activities starting soon, this will be a great way for kids to grab something on the go. There are also various "Specials" each month. These generally include some type of steak and/or chicken for less than $25. Another popular item is the Fresh Fruit and Veggie Box for $22. If you're interested, but just not sure yet about ordering, come to a distribution to check things out - the next one will be Saturday, May 22 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at church.
Currently we are ordering through a church in Winona, MN. If we'd like to become our own host site, we will need to keep the program going strong. Please spread the word to all your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers or anyone else you think may be interested. There are always extra copies of the menu, so please feel free to share. You can also view the current menu and other info at www.angelfoodministries.com. Ordering online is possible with a debit or credit card. As a host site, we would also be able to add payment with food stamps as an option. As always, if you have any questions, please contact Celeste Saylor at 608-781-3007 or moesodak@charter.net. |
